1- What’s mastitis?

Mastitis is the inflammatory response of the udder. It can be subclinical or clinical.

2- What’s the difference between subclinical and clinical mastitis?

Subclinical mastitis doesn’t show clinical signs in the udder. It usually shows mild alteration in the milk and/or SCC. Clinical mastitis shows signs in the udder, for example, redness, pain, high temperature, inflammation, etc.

3- Which pathogens can cause mastitis?

Some pathogens can cause mastitis, such as bacteria, yeast and some prototheca. The main pathogens are bacteria, and they can be classified as environmental or contagious.

4- Why is it so important to prevent mastitis?

Mastitis is a disease that has multiple effects on the dairy industry. It is the most costly disease in the dairy industry (it is estimated that mastitis costs up to 2,000 million dollars in the US dairy industry), affecting the quality of milk, and has a very significant impact on animal welfare
